How to read a supplement label

Extraction ratios, plant parts, proprietary blends and the difference between testing and marketing.

Most of what separates a good herbal product from a poor one is printed on the package — if the manufacturer chooses to print it.

Look for the plant part, the extraction method and ratio, the batch number and a certificate of analysis you can actually request.

Proprietary blends are the clearest warning sign: they let a manufacturer list impressive ingredients without disclosing meaningful quantities.

A label that hides the plant part is telling you something.

Herbal products can interact with medication. Speak to a healthcare professional before starting anything new.
